The character is fictional and so is the story but the game is a masterpiece and playing it in 2020 takes us back to the time of the real Assassins creed and the medieval era of gaming.
2. Far Cry (2004)
Far Cry is a 2004 first-person shooter game developed by Crytek and published by Ubisoft. It is the first installment in the Far Cry series, followed by 2008's Far Cry 2. Set on a mysterious tropical archipelago, Far Cry follows Jack Carver, a former American special forces operative, as he searches for a journalist who went missing shortly after their boat was destroyed by mercenaries. As Jack explores the island, he begins to discover the horrific genetic experiments being conducted on the local wildlife and must confront the mad scientist behind them. The game is played from a first-person view and allows the player to use various weapons and tools as well as take advantage of their environments to eliminate enemies. The game was released for Microsoft Windows in March 2004 and for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 a decade later.
Far Cry was praised for its visuals, gameplay, and the level of freedom given to players. The game was also a commercial success, selling over 730,000 units within four months of release and over 2.5 million units in its lifetime. The success of Far Cry led to several stand-alone sequels developed by Ubisoft, as well as remakes: Far Cry Instincts and Far Cry Instincts: Predator. A loose film adaptation was released in 2008.
Prototype 2 (stylized as [PROTOTYPE2]) is a 2012 open world action-adventure video game. Developed by Canadian studio Radical Entertainment and published by Activision, it is the sequel to 2009's Prototype. The game was announced at the 2010 Spike VGA Awards.[2] Versions for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One were released on July 14, 2015 alongside the first game as Prototype Biohazard Bundle. Separate versions of the games became available in August 2015.[3]
The game features a new protagonist, James Heller, as he goes on a quest to destroy the Blacklight virus. The story is one of revenge, as Heller wants to kill Alex Mercer, protagonist of the original Prototype, after his family was killed in the outbreak of the Blacklight virus. While the game was a top seller for a period of time, its sales would eventually result in the downsizing of its developer.[4]
4. Battlefield 3
Battlefield 3 is a 2011 first-person shooter video game developed by DICE and published by Electronic Arts for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. It is a direct sequel to 2005's Battlefield 2, and the seventh main installment in the Battlefield franchise.
In Battlefield 3's campaign, players take on the personas of several military roles: a U.S. Marine, an F/A-18F Super Hornet weapon systems officer, an M1A2 Abrams tank operator, and a Spetsnaz GRU operative. The campaign takes place in various locations and follows the stories of two characters, Henry Blackburn and Dimitri Mayakovsky.
The game sold 5 million copies in its first week of release,[3] and received mostly positive reviews. The game's sequel, Battlefield 4, was released in 2013.
5. Hitman: Absolution
Hitman: Absolution is a 2012 stealth video game developed by IO Interactive and published by Square Enix's European subsidiary.[2] It is the fifth installment in the Hitman series and the sequel to 2006's Hitman: Blood Money. Before release, the developers stated that Absolution would be easier to play and more accessible, while still retaining hardcore aspects of the franchise.[3] The game was released on 20 November 2012 (which is in the 47th week of the year in reference to the protagonist, Agent 47) for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360.[4] On 15 May 2014, Hitman: Absolution – Elite Edition was released for OS X by Feral Interactive;[5] it contained all previously released downloadable content, including Hitman: Sniper Challenge, a "making of" documentary, and a 72-page artbook.[5]
Hitman: Absolution's single-player story follows Agent 47's efforts to protect a genetically-engineered teenage girl from various criminal syndicates and his former employers, the International Contract Agency (ICA), who want to use her potential as an assassin for their own ends. The game was met with a polarized reception. Most positive comments were concerning the game's graphics, environments and locations, and the varied gameplay options. However, many critics disliked the game for its linear structure as opposed to the open ended nature of previous installments. As of March 2013, the game had sold over 3.6 million copies. A sequel, Hitman, was released in 2016. Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment released the enhanced versions of Absolution and Blood Money for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One as part of the Hitman HD Enhanced Collection.[6]
